TEXTILE DESIGNER (Fabric Development – 3–5 Years Experience)

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Textile Designer will be responsible for creating, testing, and developing fabrics suited for uniforms (school, corporate, industrial, hospitality). This includes material R&D, pattern creation, color development, and performance-based fabric engineering.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop new fabrics: PC blends, PV suiting, terry-rayon, cotton-rich blends, performance knits.
  • Work closely with mills to develop GSM, yarn counts, weaves, finishes, and colorfastness standards.
  • Create mood boards, fabric swatches, and weave patterns based on client requirements.
  • Evaluate fabric performance: shrinkage, pilling, tensile strength, breathability.
  • Collaborate with uniform designers to ensure fabric compatibility with end-use.
  • Maintain documentation of fabric specs, quality sheets, testing reports.
  • Optimize cost without compromising durability or longevity.
  • Conduct market research on new textile technologies, finishes, and global standards.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (3–5 YEARS)

  • Experience with textile mills or fabric R&D units.
  • Strong knowledge of weaving, knitting, dyeing, and finishing processes.
  • Familiarity with color theory, CAD systems, and textile testing norms.

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Strong understanding of yarn types, blends, GSM, weave structures.
  • Ability to create performance-focused fabrics (anti-bacterial, moisture-wicking, wrinkle-free).
  • Advanced understanding of trims, interlinings, printing techniques, and fabric costing.
